But since 2000, more and more wolves are living in the wilds of Germany again. Conservationists are quite happy about this. But one man`s joy is another man`s sorrow: Because wolves,\u00a0as carnivores, not only kill wild animals<span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"\">, but also easy-to-take livestock such as goats or sheep.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"\">Additional protection measures are therefore indispensable.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"\">In particular, deterrence of wolves with electric fences has proven itself.<\/span><\/span><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"mce-hs-more\" style=\"height: 20px !important;\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" data-mce-placeholder=\"\" \/><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"\">The federal states of Germany have developed standards for the fence types &#8220;permanent electric fences&#8221; and &#8220;mobile electric fences&#8221;, which are published in federal &#8220;wolf management plans&#8221;.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"\">Fences according to such standards are considered to be wolf-safe and entitle to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ble.de\/SharedDocs\/Pressemitteilungen\/DE\/2022\/220331_Weidetiere-Wolf.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">financial support for preventive measures or compensation payments in the event of damage<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>The Wolf Deterrent Fence<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\"><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\">For the deterrence of wolves, an electric fence made of five current carrying wires and straps or a wolf deterrent netting is suitable.\u00a0The electric fence must be very well grounded \u2014 only then, there is a sufficient current conduction guaranteed.\u00a0<span class=\"\">The power supply is a powerful 12 V AKO fence energizer with a fence voltage of 4,000 to 5,000 volts and an impulse energy of 5 joules.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\"><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\">Wolves try to first dig a hole below the fence before jumping over it.\u00a0<span class=\"\">Therefore, the ground clearance to the lowest wire should be 10 to at most 20 cm.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"\">The other wires or tapes are installed to a height of 30 and 50 cm, and then again to 80 and 110 cm.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"\">At the upper end of the fence, you can additionally attach a signal strap as an optical barrier at approximately 130 cm, or even attach rags.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"\">The rags have a deterrent effect\u00a0especially on young wolves\u00a0\u2014\u00a0even if only a short-term one.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"\">Wolf nettings\u00a0also have a non-electrifying ground wire as protection against underground excavation.<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/litzclip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Bodelitze.png\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-14061 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/litzclip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Bodelitze-300x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/litzclip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Bodelitze-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/litzclip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Bodelitze-80x80.png 80w, https:\/\/litzclip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Bodelitze-768x768.png 768w, https:\/\/litzclip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Bodelitze-36x36.png 36w, https:\/\/litzclip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Bodelitze-180x180.png 180w, https:\/\/litzclip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Bodelitze-705x705.png 705w, https:\/\/litzclip.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Bodelitze.png 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\">Make sure that the electric fence has sufficient clearance to slopes, rootstocks, etc., so that wolves do not use them as jumping grounds.\u00a0<span class=\"\">In the case of small pens, the wolf can get too close to the farm animals despite the fences and cause them to be in a state of unrest.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"\">In this case, you can build a safety ring with a double fencing.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"\">A successful <a href=\"https:\/\/litzclip.com\/en\/how-does-an-electric-fence-work\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">electric fence<\/a> also requires daily monitoring along the fence line, removing vegetation above and below the fence, and regularly checking the charging voltage of the battery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>For more details and tipps on other deterrent fences, for example for foxes or wild boars, take a look at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ako-agrar.com\/en\/wildlife-defence\/wolf-defence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wild Animal Deterrence Guidebook from AKO<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For about 150 years, wolves have been distinct in our region.
